at least when I was doing a lot of audio books when I was commuting. I've only used Kindle devices, and I find the storefront on the Kindle is the most convenient feature about the device, as well as it's ability to sync with Audible. If I were going to look outside the Amazon ecosystem, are there any faster/lighter/more ergonomic alternatives I should consider? But the Oasis is slower than the Paperwhite, and without a profound discount, neither it nor the Signature are worth the insane premium over the standard Paperwhite (for which I paid $114 Canadian). I'm now hoping there's a sale on the Oasis or even the Signature edition of the Paperwhite, because adding auto-brightness would be a major upgrade, and the ergonomics of the Oasis might get me what I want. Trading all the perks of the Paperwhite for the form factor and weight of the Basc seems absurd, and I'm left with a choice between major compromises.

Right now, I'm a bit first-world-frustrated.

It's just a bit smaller than the Paperwhite, and while I miss the higher resolution of the screen, it's more than adequate. I much preferred the feel of the basic in my hand, too. Yes, the touchscreen is faster, but still nowhere near as fast as I want, and the device is significantly heavier than the basic. The all new Paperwhite went on sale for a ludicrous price, so I decided to return the basic and upgrade. I grabbed a basic Kindle - never used an e-reader before - and was amazed by how much better e-ink is than LCD for reading, and how much worse the touchscreen responsiveness is than a cellphone. As a new Kindle user, there's a lot of wisdom in this.
